Miguel Benjumea (Spain, 1982) is an artist and researcher. He holds a PhD in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. His work examines the historical and cartographic tensions present in the definition of territory. To this end, he appropriates existing cultural devices and formats, which serve as a pretext for articulating new narratives, reinterpreting different symbolic mechanisms. In his videos, photographs, urban frottages, and installations, he explores hegemonic narratives and how they strengthen the identity and ideological dissemination of the nation-state.
She has undertaken residencies at various institutions and in different contexts, both in Spain and in Mexico and the United States. She has received several awards (DKV–Vasos comunicantes, Junta de Andalucía–Iniciarte, VEGAP, Art Públic–València among others) and has exhibited in numerous galleries and art centers (Collegium, Centre Pompidou Málaga, Russian Museum Collection, Cidade da Cultura de Galicia, Sala Santa Inés de Sevilla, Avilés Art Center, Provincial Museum of Lugo, Radio Cs and Patio atrás in Mexico City, University of Loja Art Gallery in Ecuador and Black & White space in New York) .
